little shop // swimzip!

July 10, 2014 | In: little style

The entire time I was pregnant with Mae, I imagined an olive skinned dark-haired little girl. I was certain my blonde, fair genes were going to be trumped by my husband and that the delivery nurse was going to hand me a baby with a giant head of black hair. As you know, that’s not exactly how it turned out. Mae is fair skinned & blonde just like me and because of that I’m particularly concerned (read: verging on paranoid) with her protecting her fragile skin from the sun.

SwimZip Swimwear
Enter SwimZip, a swimwear company that creates SPF 50+ rash guards with a full zipper up the front. Genius, right? Particularly for my little girl who hates when I put a regular top on her, let alone a snug rash guard.
SwimZip was started by Betsy Johnson, a woman who was diagnosed with skin cancer at just 26-years-old. She left the corporate world and started SwimZip because she was passionate about protecting others from the sun and helping them avoid her same fate.

SwimZip Swimwear
SwimZip is one of my top three favorite brands that I’ve written about on the blog. I love that this swimsuit fully protects the skin it’s covering from the sun so I only have to worry about applying sunscreen on her legs & face. Since sunscreen application has become a war with this toddler, the less area that needs coverage the better!
It’s apparent these rash guards were designed by parents because they are tagless, feature a no-pinch zipper flap, and are oh-so-soft! And you just can’t beat the easy-on and easy-off.

SwimZip swimwear is not only a brilliant idea, they are also absolutely adorable. Betsy creates all the designs and both the suits for boys and girls are darling. Mae’s ruffle bum in this one is about the best thing ever.

I feel so passionate about SwimZip’s mission and I love that they’re doing it in style! No joke I’ve become their #1 cheerleader and I just know that you’ll love SwimZip too. Betsy is giving Thrifty Littles readers free domestic shipping on products ordered through the SwimZip website through Monday with code ThriftySwimZip. Their suits are very affordable too and there’s no better company to support!
{Also want to let you guys know that Mae is wearing a size 12-18 months here and it will definitely fit her all summer long. She is on the thin side, but I would still recommend sizing down if between sizes. SwimZip is available in sizes 0-3 months up to size 12-14.}

    I love this! I’ve been wanting to get Sadie a suit but held off because I wasn’t sure what size to go with…then I got busy and totally forgot about it! She’s a 12-18 months in most bottoms but needs 18-24 months or 2T in tops because she’s so tall. It sounds like with the generous cut, the 12-18 size would fit her skinny 2 year old self and without the top being too small 🙂 I worry about the beastly TX sun and her skin, although she actually loves to get sunscreen on! Now I just have to decide which color to get! Thanks for sharing!

      Ooooh, I think the fit will be perfect! The suit is a little long on Mae and I even roll the sleeves up a bit but the bottom fits her really well. I am always so worried about the sun too and this makes me feel a million times better being outside in the sun! If you order one, you’ll love it. 🙂
