I know Halloween is still nearly seven weeks away, but it’s definitely not too early to start planning out costumes. Large stores seem to get picked over early and handmade shops typically take a few weeks to ship, so it’s best not to put it off too long. I know this can be a bit of a struggle since most toddlers change their minds a hundred times in the weeks leading up to Halloween. Like Mae, who has already decided she’s going to be a police officer, a dinosaur with a tutu, a witch, Captain Hook, and Elsa. (I’m kinda hoping she’ll drop that last one since she pretty much dresses up like Elsa every day of her life and I’m secretly going for coordinating sibling costumes.)
I thought it’d be fun to do a little round-up of some of my favorite sources for Halloween costumes for babies and kids, from small handmade shops to larger stores. Although the prices can be higher at small shops, I oftentimes find quality costumes to be worth the extra investment since children use them for dress-up long after Halloween. We have a superhero came from Lovelane Designs (#8 below) and it gets played with at least twice a week.
So here we go!
1 | The Wishing Elephant: The most beautiful (and some of the most hilarious) costumes for babies & toddlers. Their baby onesie costumes are the best, like this ridiculously cute salt & pepper shaker set for twins. The Madeline costume below is available as a full set or hat & collar only. 2 | The Land of Nod: They don’t have the largest selection, but they have some unique ones like the detective and this baby mermaid.
3 | Chasing Fireflies: They have a huge variety of unique costumes, including many that are exclusive to them and lots of options for families. I adore this classic baby chick and how sweet is this Little Red Riding Hood.
4 | Opposite of Far: The go-to spot for felt animal masks. From robots to animals to monsters, they have nearly everything. Plus I love this option because it leaves you some room to get creative with their clothing. Robots masks here. (Image via Opposite of Far.)
5 | Yoyo.com: They have a huge selection, and some pretty affordable options too. I love the costumes by Princess Paradise, particularly their costumes for infants. Rocket ship here, but equally obsessed with the candy corn.
6 | Pottery Barn Kids: They have one of the biggest selection of high-quality costumes for babies, toddlers, and big kids. A few of my favorites are the rainbow, giraffe, and this airplane!
7 | Magic Cabin: They don’t have a huge selection of costumes, but they’re a good spot for cloaks and wings that’d be perfect for Halloween or everyday dress-up! Unicorn here.
8 | Sparrow & B Costumery: This shop’s specialty is wing and mask sets, but they have animals & capes too. Bat costume here. (Image via Sparrow & B.)
9 | Lovelane Designs: The very best super hero capes & accessories that will last you long past Halloween. (Image via Lovelane Designs.)
10 | Carken Design: The most beautiful mermaid costumes, plus they have sequin bodysuits and tops. (Image via Carken Design.)
11 | BooBahBlue: I love their selection of whimsical costumes from Where the Wild Things Are to this adorable circus bear. (Image via BooBahBlue.)
12 | The Costume Cafe: This adorable shop features costumes that are mostly food. Nutella, Sriracha, movie theater popcorn, and so many more. (Image via The Costume Cafe.)
